Eastern Shore did not disappoint

Onwards to the Eastern Shore of Virginia. This did not disappoint. I have always wanted to go to Chincoteague ever since I was a little girl and read Misty of Chincoteague. After the Chesapeake Bay bridge/tunnel we drove off the beaten track on the southern end of the peninsula of the eastern shore. There were numerous farms growing wheat and corn. The old farmhouses were modest and it looked like time had not changed this area. Further up and closer to MD the fast food restaurants appeared. After stopping a roadside seafood joint and having the most delicious crabcake sandwich we finally made it to Chincoteague.
I was surprised that Chincoteague had so many houses. The book has put them on the map. At least there were no mega mansions. We drove thru and saw the area where the ponies swim in July every year and then we left the island and headed for MD.

Dumpstation.
Assateague, MD is beautiful. It is a state and national park with no residents or businesses. (Apart from the state parks beach store) We saw horses before we even got to the park. The state park has only a few electric sites so we were forced to camp at a non-electric one. No, we did not buy a generator for the trip. Thank God for the breeze. It cooled immediately and we were just fine camping next to the dunes and hearing the huge waves crash all night.
The ocean was too rough and chilly for the little man and me. Jeff braved the cold water.
Best crabcakes south of Chincoteague.
We cooked out fresh seafood we bought from the Eastern Shore and felt we had found heaven.

We did not stay 10 feet away. But no bites.

The pony looks like Misty.

The next morning we biked from one end to the other or as long as the path would allow and saw lots of horses, bunnies and MOSQUITOS. You have to watch out for the horse dung everywhere. It made the ride an obstacle course. You also have to stay a safe distance from the horses so they don’t charge and bite. I just rode past and they left me alone.
The beach reminds me of parts of the Outer Banks. No houses and fishing along the shore. That being said there is only so much to do so we shortened our stay to keep from getting bored. No wifi and the flies drove me a little batty. I did buy the book Misty to read while here but Jeff took it and started it first. If he finishes it I will be surprised. He only read business and real estate books!
